#022. Why It Takes Courage To Boost Your Self-Confidence

Today we talk about why it takes courage to boost your self-confidence and why fear may hold us back from living our best life. Most of us are not born fearless and confident. I had to overcome some of my fears to get to where I am today.

When I talk about fearless and confident, I am not talking about the courageous Katniss from The Hunger Games (yes, I am a BIG fan of science fiction and fantasy shows) who slays bad people with confidence with her bow and arrow. She is taking action despite the fears and even the threat of being killed herself. Taking action is what matters most.

Here are some reasons that might contribute to the perception that courage is hard for many women:

    1. Gender Stereotypes: Women are often socially conditioned to be accommodating and avoid conflict, which may sometimes make it challenging to take bold actions or stand up for their rights.
    2. Representation: A lack of representation of women in leadership roles can create the perception that women are less likely to take courageous actions. This lack of visible role models can affect women’s self-perception and their belief in their abilities.
    3. Self-Doubt: Studies have shown that women tend to underestimate their abilities more than men do, a phenomenon known as the “confidence gap.” This lack of self-confidence can make it more difficult to act courageously.
    4. Fear of Backlash: Women often face backlash or criticism when they behave assertively or take bold actions – behavior that is often celebrated in men. This fear of backlash can sometimes inhibit courageous behavior.
    5. Workplace Inequities: In many workplaces, women still face bias and discrimination, which can make it more challenging to take risks or make bold decisions.
    6. Societal Expectations: In many cultures, women are expected to prioritize the needs of others over their own, which can inhibit self-assertion and courageous actions.
    7. Imposter Syndrome: Imposter Syndrome, the feeling of not being good enough or feeling like a fraud, is more prevalent in women and can impede the willingness to be bold or take risks.

So let’s dive into why it takes courage to boost your self-confidence and what you can do to overcome some of your fears.
