#061. How Pilates Works For Any Age And Fitness Level With Jillian Hessel

If you thought Pilates was a workout only suitable for those already in the best shape they can be, you can think again. In actuality, it’s a fantastic choice for rebuilding strength or for starting out at any level of fitness. To illustrate this, I’m joined in this episode by Jillian Hessel, who shares her experience of Pilates after injury. In today’s interview, she shares all she knows and teaches and how Pilates works for any age and fitness level.

How Pilates Works For Any Age And Fitness Level With Jillian Hessel

Jillian Hessel has spent her entire life training to become one of the best ballet dancers in the world, and she succeeded. Because of her commitment to the art,  this native New Yorker was scouted and moved to Europe at 18 years old for an almost fairytale career of plies and elegant body movements. As a result of rigorous training, she kept herself in peak performance condition until a fall exposed an unseen diagnosis – scoliosis.

Speaking about her experience learning to completely retrain her body for function and right alignment, Jillian confessed that she had to dismiss most of the knowledge she gained dancing. Her relationship with Pilates and the direct trainees of Mr. Pilates himself forever changed the way she took care of her body and those around her. Jillian became a Masters Pilates Instructor, an esteemed author, an international speaker, and a face of the Pilates movement. She has also created and honed her unique approach to teaching Pilates, which she calls the B.E.A.M. Technique™.
