Why I Wrote This Book
There was a moment years ago when I stood in front of my first husband and told him I wanted out of our marriage.
It wasn’t easy. But deep down, I knew I wanted more—more freedom, more possibility, and the chance to choose my own path.
When I moved to the U.S., I imagined building a bold, purposeful life. Somewhere along the way, I started shrinking and doing what was expected of me. Saying yes to everyone but myself.
Until one day, I finally said it out loud: I want something different.
That moment changed everything.
Over the years, I’ve seen that same quiet hunger in the women I coach. They reach midlife and wonder, How did I end up here?
They’re not trying to be younger. They want to feel like themselves again—the version who speaks up, trusts herself, and moves forward without second-guessing.
But doubt has a way of creeping in. It slows us down. It keeps us playing small.
I know—because it happened to me too.
I wrote Pursue Your Spark to remind you that clarity doesn’t come from waiting. It comes from choosing. From taking one honest step at a time.

Heike Yates is a Midlife Fitness Expert, award-winning author, and podcast host with over 40 years of experience helping busy midlife women who feel exhausted, stuck, or unsure where to begin rebuild strength, confidence, and energy.
Her work is grounded in decades of hands-on coaching and a deep understanding of the identity shifts women experience in midlife. Heike supports women who’ve spent years putting everyone else first and are finally ready to feel like themselves again — with more clarity, purpose, and ease.
Blending fitness, nutrition, and mindset strategies explicitly created for midlife, she guides women toward realistic next steps that fit real life. A former bodybuilder and ultra-marathon runner, Heike made the internationally recognized Pilates with Resist-A-Ball® program and now leads the Pursue Your Spark Blueprint, her signature path for lasting, sustainable change.
